Belief

In life and in business your belief system is your guide to the steps you take and the paths you follow.

The dictionary defines belief as something you accept as true or real; a firmly held opinion or conviction. Everyone believes in something or someone.  It might be a belief in God, a belief in yourself, or a belief in a system or a set of rules.

It is your set of beliefs and convictions that guide you on the decisions you make every day.  They are the basic premises that form the character, trust and commitment we exhibit.

You are what you believe -

This can be shown in how you interact with others.  For example, my belief in my wife is absolute.  I don’t worry that she will do something to hurt me, our kids, our relationship or our trust in each other.  I have developed this belief over time from the day I met her and for all 18 years we have been together.

This is not a concrete object I can show to others, it is an internal feeling – a belief – I have developed in her because of experience.  I know her, I trust her, I believe in her.

I think we all have at least one person in our life that we can depend on like that.  Someone we believe in.

This type of relationship can be personal like with my wife but it can also be found in business.  It is what we should strive for with the people we work with. If everyone tried to be the person they need to be so that others would believe in them, life and business would be a much better place.

Funerals are one place we get to find out what others thought.  The eulogies and revelations at funerals let us know how important and wonderful a person had been to those close to them.  It shows how others believed in them.

This leads us to quite possibly the most important belief; the ability to believe in oneself.  If you don’t believe in who you are and what you stand for then how can you expect others to have that belief? If you could be the fly on the wall at the meeting you just left or get a preview of your own funeral, would you like what you hear? Do others believe in you, your abilities, and your sincerity?

To succeed in life, in relationships and in a home business you must believe in yourself and the path you are taking. You must be willing to trust your decisions and take the action needed to move forward. You cannot spend every day trying to understand the next step or trying to figure out what to do.

You must believe in order to succeed -

Belief creates fact.

This doesn’t mean you won’t make a mistake or do something wrong, but when it happens you will learn from it and move forward.  The beliefs you have are well grounded and keep you on track.

One way to develop a belief in the home business you start is to find a plan, a coach and/or a system you can trust and believe in.

Your beliefs are the core element needed in order to set up the values of character, commitment, and desire that determine the success or failure you find in life and in business. Always remember – to achieve something requires a faith and a belief in yourself.  It requires vision, hard work, and dedication. But for those that believe, all things are possible.

Trust your beliefs.

Trust yourself.

Believe in yourself!

I have fallen victim to the hype and the ‘gurus’ as well so I understand where you are coming from. The best advice I have (and it seems like what you are doing) is to learn more about the person and company you will be dealing with before signing up. Develop a relationship and get to know the persons character and values. That will give you a good idea of what you will get after you sign.

Good Luck and let me know if I can help…

  2. Faith and belief are what get me through the day. Thank you for sharing.

  3. Allow me to share a quote from a notable scribe: “What the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve. The point made in this article is true especially for entrepreneurs because they must first believe in themselves enough to have faith that they will achieve success in their own business. Anyone whose attempted starting their own business knows that it is easier to work as an employee than to run your own business. Those who chose to be their own boss tend to have a strong purpose that compels them to invest the amount of time it takes to build a business. For me it is freedom. I value it more than anything else. Thus, I’m willing to sacrifice all of my time to doing my own thing.

  4. “you are what you believe” There is nothing more true than this statement! Belief is something that is so important but is often skipped over by most people. This can be either due to a complete lack of understanding about this concept or because people don’t think they are able to consciously control and influence their belief systems.

Thanks to the wonderful information contained within this article, people who read this will be able to start their journey down the path to create the life they want by altering their mindset and changing their beliefs about their capabilities.

Thanks again and keep the awesome article coming!

  5. The principle that we must envision ourselves is a universal truth. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “A man is what he thinks about all day long. And in his book, The Strangest Secret, Earl Nightingale tells how he spent his childhood at the libraries reading the works from great philosophers and from his quest for the secret to success; he concluded that there was one central theme in all the great philosophies: We become what we think about. This article reiterates this timeless central theme and I’m thankful for there being persons who spread this inspirational message.

  6. Allowing The Small Things To Torture You… Allowing the little things to torture you forces you further and further into an emotional box that’s hard to escape the older you get. Your beliefs become so limiting that you shut off the possibility of allowing someone else to open you up to new experiences. Instead, you look at every little thing others do as irritating you. Eventually you have such a long list of irritations and things you don’t want in your life that you can’t remember what it is that you want. And the suffering continues.

  7. The increasing number of so-called gurus make it more difficult for people who want to start their own business, but do not necessarily have a particular business in mind. This is because so many of them make unrealistic promises just to get money and this makes it more time consuming and confusing to sift out the junk from the jewels. That is why I appreciate whenever I come across a person who offers valid, sensible information as opposed to hype. Your words seem like they come from a man who lives by integrity. I appreciate that and so should everyone because honesty should be rewarded.

  8. Believing in your self is key to success in anything. Your beliefs define who you are and how you act and treat people. That statement “If you do not believe in yourself then others will not believe in you is so true it is painful. If you go around at work or where ever saying “oh I can’t do that then people are going to start believing you and you will get passed over for promotions etc.

  9. Beliefs are a core part of what this nation was built on and we have one of the most blessed nations out there. You have to believe in something or someone or you are never going to get anything or anywhere in life.

  10. Christopher says:

Michael, like you I have my husband that I believe in basically my story sounds a lot like yours and your wives. There is a statement that one of the commenter’s made ” Your beliefs define who you are I think that is so true, if you don’t believe in someone or something then what are you what does your existence mean? The beliefs of some great people is what made this world what it is today, unfortunately we have tried to get rid of some of those beliefs and it has done nothing but back fire on us. Believe in God and believe in your self and you can go anywhere and do anything.
